Wedding Day Rain Plan: What to Do if It Rains on Your Ohio Wedding

Weather is a topic that comes up for every person planning a wedding. Feeling and being prepared with a wedding day rain plan can help to ease your anxiety for the day-of. This is your special day and rain isn’t going to hold you back from having a wonderful time with beautiful photos.

As beautiful as an outdoor wedding can be, such as having your wedding at one of the Top Ohio Parks, rain is a real risk.

You can secure a date and a venue, but then realize that the weather won’t be cooperating on the day of.

Let’s talk about your wedding day rain Plan for if it rains on the day of your Ohio wedding.

Start by identifying what truly matters for you

How the rain affects you and your wedding party can be determined by how your feel about the risk of rain. If you’re the type of person who would be gutted if it rained, then opting for an indoor ceremony and reception venue is the way to go. My venue roundup of The Best Toledo Wedding Venues would be great to explore for my type-A future clients out there.

And if you’re the type of person who feels the opposite and the uncertainty of rain wouldn’t bother you, then you could benefit from the few tips I have here and go with the flow!

Wedding Day Rain Plan

While we can’t control the weather, we can do some things to help with having a wedding backup plan. If your venue doesn’t have an indoor dry space or a covered porch option, here are some options to explore.

  • You can rent tents with sides so that no one gets wet. The Knot has some amazing wedding tent decorations with transformations that may have you doing a double-take.
  • You can provide clear umbrellas that become photo ops for a memorable day (keep the tags on so you can return them if it doesn’t rain!).  Here’s an example from Amazon and more examples from The Knot. As your wedding photographer let me tell you – cute umbrellas and rain boots make for GREAT wedding photos!
  • You can lay down mats, carpets, or wood boards for you and your guests so that no one gets their feet soggy.
  • You can have backup shoes such as pretty flats or boots.
  • You can request extra hairspray and makeup setting spray from your hair stylist and makeup artist. Remember your hair might fall flatter sooner than you were hoping so we’ll get those photos in early. Consider getting ready photos while you’re indoors too.
  • You can shift the ceremony or reception time by an hour to avoid the worst part of the rain (this isn’t always possible, but it’s worth having this discussion with your venue ahead of time).

Embrace the change!

If your wedding’s outdoors, having a plan B for your wedding day can make you feel more calm just knowing it’s there and there are options. Embracing the rain can make your photos come out carefree, passionate, and intimate. We can transform your day and your photos into a different vibe by making them playful or moody depending on your vibe.

In conclusion…

Even though rain on your wedding day isn’t ideal, you can choose to embrace the change! You’ll have a perfectly imperfect day that you’ll remember forever.

The goal is not perfection. It’s about presence. It’s about promising your forever to your favorite person, surrounded by people who love you. And remember, I can create beautiful photos no matter what the weather is doing.
