Megan and Garrett’s nontraditional weekday wedding was definitely one for, held in one of their favorite places — Ludington, MI. These two decided to tie the knot on a Monday, keeping things simple and intentional, surrounded by their closest family and friends.
Meg and Garr’s story started back in art class in high school… yes, they’re high school sweethearts! Megan made the first move by sitting next to Garrett, and after a date to see the Christmas lights at the Toledo Zoo, they became inseparable. Fast forward to December 2021, Garrett proposed at home while they were both recovering from COVID, making their Christmas extra special. Their shared love for nature and desire for a non-traditional wedding led them to choose Ludington, a place they visit every summer.
Megan started her day at the Stearns Hotel, channeling her inner beauty guru by doing her own hair and makeup. The hotel, with its old-school aura, set the perfect scene for the ‘getting ready’ portion of the day. Megan’s mom and stepmom helped with the final touches, making sure she looked stunning in her dress from Belle Amour Bridal!
We then headed to a nearby beach for their first look. Despite it being midday, we lucked out with cloudy skies, creating the perfect soft light for their photos. Seeing Garrett’s face light up when he saw Megan was truly one of the highlights of the day and one of my favorite moments to document. Their connection is undeniable, and documenting emotions like this is such a joy!
The ceremony took place at The Lakehouse, a venue that perfectly matched their laid-back, nature-loving vibe. Megan’s sister officiated the ceremony (how sweet is that?), keeping it short and sweet. One of the most touching moments was Megan’s impromptu first look with her dad right at the front of the aisle — cue the happy tears!
The reception was all about enjoying good food, great company, and lots of dancing. Megan and Garrett’s intimate guest list of about 50 people made for a cozy and relaxed affair with only the ones they loved most. Their friend Jimmy even snuck away for a quick fishing session at the end of the night, and we made sure to capture that fun little detail, too!
One of my favorite moments was when Megan, a self-proclaimed dance enthusiast, hit the dance floor. Despite the small guest list, the energy was high, and everyone had an absolute blast. Garrett and his friends also took some time to enjoy cigars outside, a perfect little moment of relaxation amid the festivities.
What made Megan and Garrett’s wedding truly special was their focus on the things that matter most: each other and their loved ones. They didn’t have a traditional wedding party, but instead surrounded themselves with family and a few close friends. The day was filled with heartfelt moments, from their family praying over them before the ceremony to the champagne pop at sunset, which despite the cloudy weather, felt magical.
